Authorities are urging motorists to be more cautious while driving in dangerous, wintry conditions

Severe weather-related crashes shut down several stretches of highway in the Kansas City area in the United States.

Several ambulances were dispatched to the different crash sites but the extent of injuries wasn't immediately known.

Numerous chain reaction accidents were reported.

This one on Interstate 70, west of Kansas City, involved nearly two dozen vehicles.

Kansas State troopers said on Sunday that the roadway would be closed for several hours while the wreckage was being cleared.

Another accident on Interstate 35 involved up to 30 vehicles.

A short time later, another pileup along Interstate 435 in Kansas City involved up to 40 vehicles.

Authorities are urging motorists to be more cautious while driving in dangerous, wintry conditions.

My hubby is a long haul trucker, and drives the I70 frequently; he has seen many crashes during this winter mainly due to folks not driving to the conditions. This particular crash occured shortly after he had passed thru that particular area.

I really feel for those who were involve in that bad pile up on I 70 my wife and I left D.C. Sunday and traveled to las Vegas and we are glad that we took I 40

I live in Kansas City and lived in NZ for school. I think it is amazing that you reported on this story. I also do volunteer fire fighting in the KC area and this is the worst winter we have seen in a long time.
