Silver Ferns defender Casey Williams will slot right back into the side as captain for the 2012 season.
Williams, who hasn’t played since undergoing ankle surgery in September last year, missed the Ferns’ three test tour to Australia and the World Netball Series in November.
The decision to select Williams was only made late on Friday, after Silver Ferns coach Waimarama Taumaunu was given approval to select the 26-year-old as captain.
"I've talked a lot with Casey and she, in my view, is the leader of this group. But I just have to be a little bit careful. She's been on [an] injury break and has not been a captain of the two teams I have coached. The reality is I'm not absolutely sure of the process and I'm very aware that the board and chief executive have a say in the decision,” Taumaunu says.
