Farrah Sipa

Farrah Sipa is a young mum, living the dream. A dream she's had since she was a child.

There were no dolls or dress ups for a young Farrah. Her passion was, and still is, construction work: driving diggers, riding on rollers, getting her hands dirty.

She had a stint in retail, but then discovered drainage work that led to digger school where she was the only female, and now Farrah is with Delta Utilities, helping build a new subdivision as part of the rebuild of Christchurch.

She is, again, the only woman on site.

And that's something Farrah just can't understand.

Watch the video to see her story.

This isn't something new. In fact this has been happening for years now. Women have been actively employed in what was once considered to be male domninated areas of the work force, whether it be civil construction, truck driving, railways, traffic control, building...the list goes on. Farrah has, along with many other NZ women, shown exactly how capable a woman can be at the helm of some pretty impressive machinery. Not only are we competent operators, women have natural talent, beauty and inelligence. Its awesome to be able to be apart of a minority of women who can appreciate what it feels like to be in control of some impressive machinery and to know what its like to step outside the square.

Awesome, you go girl. I love working in construction, although I don't use machinery.
