Police are warning people to steer clear of car surfing after a Taranaki woman was thrown from a four-wheel drive roof and critically injured.

The 26 year-old was taken to Taranaki Base Hospital when the accident occurred in the suburb of Bell Block at around 7pm Wednesday night.

Senior sergeant Terry Vandillen says car-surfing is incredibly unsafe, and should never be attempted.

“While we do everything we can to stop it, obviously they see it as a bit of a thrill, or it’s a dare or whatever it might be, but quite clearly a motor vehicle is a very dangerous instrument in the wrong hands, and if it’s not used properly it can hurt people.”

Police investigations are continuing.

At 26 years of age, you would have thought that she would have gained even a modicum of sense. Noooooo! obviously the IQ of a boiled egg and collectively with her driver and mates that of a bowl of porridge!
