The 18-year-old West Auckland woman changed with concealing the dead body of a child, has had a 24-hour curfew imposed and been banned from being in the presence of children without adult supervision.

The teenage women appeared in the Waitakere District Court today after a dead baby boy, born 10 weeks premature, was found on the woman’s property earlier in the week.

The woman has received name suppression and was granted bail under the condition she goes on a 24-hour curfew at her parent’s home.

She is also banned from being around children under the age of 16 unless her parents are present.

The judge has confiscated her passport after the prosecutor told the court she was a flight risk.

The baby boy was found Monday afternoon on a concrete path outside a house on Barron Dr, Green Bay.

The investigation is ongoing, say police, who have yet to reveal just how the baby died.

The house is opposite a playground and near a primary school.

The woman will reappear in court in two weeks.

Every day in New Zealand there are on average of 49 babies murdered, that we do not hear about. However their precious body parts can be viewed in buckets, at abortion facilities. No one is charged. So why make a fuss about one premature baby? (Info from NZ Department of Statistics, 16 June 2009)

How often does this happen that we don't ever know about.Even in this day and age and in all cultures.During war time and other civil disruptions this is common. Extreme fear, shock and trauma can lead to extreme acts.

We dont know all the circumstances surronding this situation, bearing in mind this girls age she probably didn't have the education and maybe the she needed support.I don't want to make excuses for this behaviour because there is none, all i say is I just hope this baby didn't suffer

As I recall there was a case similar to this recently where a mother left her baby in a toilet on board an aircraft? That mother was not charged. It will be interesting to see what transpires in the case of this mother. I wonder why such a huge difference in the way she is being treated.

Wouldnt be suprised if the child wasnt even given birth to in hospital. There is no way a premature child would be allowed to go home in the small amount of supposed time with in the apparent birth and supposed death of the child.

Yes, perhaps. Although I struggle to see the relevance of a comment about 'abuse of infants' when we do not yet know a single thing about how this baby died.

Perhaps if the length of time spent with baby in hospital was increased, so that mothers could be monitored and taught how to handle the situations that arise with a new born, there would be less abuse of infants. In days gone by, mothers spent a week in hospital with their new born babies.
