A young man is wanted by police after a 19-year-old
woman was raped in a south Auckland park while three of his friends
stood by and watched.
Detective Sergeant Andrew Townsend says the
woman was sitting on a seat in a reserve between Frobisher Way and
Roscommon Road in Manurewa about 11pm on Wednesday when she was
approached by four males.
One of them sat beside her and, after trying to make conversation, put his hand up her skirt.
He then carried her to bushes within the reserve before raping her.
"The
male kept his hand over her mouth throughout the attack. Once he
finished, he ran away with the three other males who were watching the
attack," Det Sgt Townsend said.
The attacker was described as aged
around 19, about 1.65m tall and with a Samoan accent. He was clean
shaven and wore blue jean shorts, a black t-shirt and a black and yellow
"Steelers" cap.
The woman was unable to provide descriptions of the other three males. None of the men were known to her.
The woman, who lives locally, found her brother shortly after the attack and notified police.
"She's fairly upset but doing really well," said Det Sgt Townsend who added the park was in a residential area and poorly lit.
Police were to talk to the victim again on Friday.
