A 24-year-old female extra is in critical condition after suffering injuries in a stunt gone wrong on the Indiana set of Michael Bay's action film Transformers 3, according US reports.

Local news station WLS-TV reports Gabriella Cedillo, 24, was airlifted to a local hospital on Wednesday after a car stunt went awry.

Witnesses told reporters the accident occurred during a driving scene, when an object went through the windshield of a car, hitting the driver.

An extra on the set described the incident: "The vehicle was being towed by another vehicle... the cable between the two vehicles broke. It whipped around and sliced through the woman's car and sliced through her skull, apparently."

Local police have confirmed "The equipment pertaining to the stunt was impounded by the Indiana State Police".

The alleged victim was reportedly in critical condition as WENN went to press.
