A young Wellington woman is cautioning other teenage girls not to venture out alone after dark, following a sexually motivated attack in the suburb of Newtown.
The 18-year-old was taking rubbish out on Hutchinson Rd on Wednesday night when three men jumped out from behind a bus shelter and assaulted her.
“One of the guys grabbed me around the waist and pushed me against the pole. I kind of pushed him away, but he came back again,” she told Fairfax Media.
The man pushed her towards the pole and tried to kiss her, but she punched him in the face and ran inside the house.
The woman says the incident is “a warning to young girls: don't go out alone in the dark at all”.
Acting Detective Sergeant Sam Mercer says police are investigating the indecent assault, and would like to hear from anyone with information about the attack.
The main offender was olive-skinned, with short spiky black hair and about 1.80m tall. He was wearing a baggy, dark grey hooded top.
