The body of a woman believed to be in her forties has been found in Mt Victoria, Wellington.
It is understood three joggers found the body at around 11 o’clock this morning.
Detective Inspector Paul Basham says the woman was discovered lying in a bushy area, a short distance from a main running track in Alexandra Park, Mt Victoria, at the southern end of the town belt.
Police have cordoned off an area and say it is too early to say whether the death is suspicious.
Mr Basham says they have a number of specialist staff trying to find out what happened to the woman.
“We ask that any member of the public who has been in this area or who has seen anything suspicious or unusual to please contact Wellington Police,” he says.
The body will be removed from the site tonight and a post-mortem conducted tomorrow.
