Tiger Woods and former caddie Steve Williams are set for a reunion of sorts when the Presidents Cup tees off in Melbourne.
As the match-ups for tomorrow's opening foursomes went up on the board, the real attention was on the names still to come.
Team captains Fred Couples and Greg Norman produced the match-up everyone wanted: Tiger Woods set to go head-to-head with former caddie Steve Williams and his new boss, Adam Scott.
Norman says the match-up will be “great for the tournament” but wasn’t planned.
“It needed to be done – it played out the way it played out, there wasn't any premeditation.”
Despite the extra attention on Woods, Williams and Scott, both team captains are adamant there won't be any animosity in the group.
“They’re still very good friends and it's going to be an exciting match,” Couples says.
Norman says the group will be “consummate professionals”.
“They’ll go out their and represent the international team and the US team the way they should do,” he says.
This could be Woods’ best chance to break his two-year winless drought. He and playing partner Steve Stricker went undefeated in the Americans’ 2009 cup victory – although that was with Williams carrying his bag.
