One of two men electrocuted by power lines in Auckland last week is now in a comfortable condition at Middlemore Hospital Burns unit.

The other remains in a serious condition at the hosptal's intensive care unit.

They were moving a metal flagpole in Mt Eden when it became tangled in the lines, badly burning them both.

The powerline they struck is understood to be of 11,000 volts.

The incident occurred outside the Ministry of Education on Normanby Road and cut power to over 200 homes in the area.

The Department of Labour is currently investigating the incident.

Lines company Vector says incidents like this are extremely rare.

They weren't technically electrocuted, (unless they were clinically dead) because they are still alive. They received electric shocks.
