World Cup fever hits Samoa

Mon, 19 Sep 2011 7:00p.m.

Wales against Samoa: Two nations who love their rugby, two nations with richer and more powerful rugby neighbours, and two nations who probably had to win yesterday, to survive beyond pool play in the Rugby World Cup.

It was a tight encounter - tough and physical, rather than free flowing and attractive.

But having driven down to Hamilton with my son and some mates, it was a grand afternoon in the sun.

Of course, there were hundreds of thousands of fans, not at the game.

In Wales, they're as passionate about rugby as we are.

And in Samoa, rugby is not only their national sport, it's part of the fabric of their communities.

So Richard Langston, and our cameraman Chris Jones, went to watch Wales play Samoa... in Samoa.

I am a proud supporter of the Manu Samoa team, after watching the samoa vrs wales game, i think that wales won the game fairly, who cares if wales had a week rest and samoa a 3 day rest. Samoa you still did me proud and I wish that we wouldnt spoil it by all these excuses. I definitely know that if samoa won that game, there would be none of this ranting going on of unfairness. Wales were just the better team in the end. Best of luck Manu for your game vrs fiji.
