What this article fails to mention is which vehicle was on the wrong side of the road/had crossed the centre line. Yet the first comment assumes speed was involved (and the cause!)? RIP Eion and condolences to your family.

Firstly, I am not from Auckland. Fair enough Andrea. You aren't one of those drivers that refuses to pull over and let vehicles pass while travelling at well below the speed limit are you? Or one of those that holds up traffic and then speeds up to 100km/h in passing lanes? I find drivers towing or driving horse floats to be particuarly notorious for these issues. Some people do not monitor their mirrors or speedometers it would seem. These folk are just as dangerous as the mad speeders.

I myself had a very close one traveling on state hiway one today at midday close to wellsford.I had not one but two cars over take me at essessive speed while towing a trailer on a blind corner on other side of road was a logging truck I'm disgraced at the lack of respect these Auckland drivers have us locals and truck drivers Aren't the problem Auckland drivers need to realise that our rural hiways are not a free for all race track. I'm angry that yesterday a innocent logging driver was killed in stupidity of another driver and again today another 7 people are critical because of stupidity of speeding something seriously needs to be done to combat the drivers who speed and continually think there cool well its not cool its far more cool to just cruise and what's john key going to do about it probably just say lets upgrade the roads well key its not our road's. That's the problem its yourself and speeding drivers but you should be held accountable for every death on our roads. As you're not doing more about it stop being a big noter and actually pull your head out of the clouds and come down to the smaller towns actually get a grip on reality in all honesty you've put our once good country down the drain. When all others who ran our country didn't and at least they came into smaller town's and really got behind what locals had to say they listened took it in and then actioned. Come to these towns and actually listen what we gotta say I'm sure there's alot of more important issues than just wasting money on sttuff that aren't top priority and standing there pretending to be prime minister what a joke you are! Regards a local who actually cares
