Copenhagen - worth it or waste of time?

Of course it is a waste of time.

Hundreds of politicians are spending loads of money and carbon emissions to fly to some building to disagree with each other and end up with even more stretched economies plus more political strings tangled with other countries.

All for some science that has now been proved utterly wrong and has had many doctored statistics.

All the computer models for AGW followed GIGO logic, Garbage In, Garbage Out.

That computer model, no matter how low co2 is, when input, makes the globe superheated.

Its a load of biased bullsh**.

The real problems have nothing to do with CO2, the major problems are limited resources, an economy that is on a hair widths edge, and a spiralling population.

Quite frankly if we doubled CO2 output, but had only 1 billion humans on earth and a fixed economy there wouldnt be a single problem.

The problem is there is too many of us.

Usually as a species becomes more cramped it becomes more violent, and has disease spread.

Thanks to our brains we can now sidestep and avoid and cure most diseases, at least to the point where near extinction is laughable, so looks like war is the only way to cure the problem.

Nice big world war to kill off 80-90% of the population would fix everything.

Its simple maths, only so many humans can live on a rock so big, as soon as theres too many you get problems.

Good on Carbon dioxide, it’s a fertilizer for plants and hence plants are growing 20% faster than 100 years ago. I would think this means 20% more food to feed people. Also good to see 3news tonight giving alternative theories why pacific atolls are being flooded i.e. plate movement (even if it’s only a sentence). When the sea is receding or land is rising out of the sea, such is in Norway, we say its plate movement, but when lands are flooding its straight to “global warming” as a reason.

I cannot understand why Mr. Key singled her out, since what she said on the ad didn't seem, critical of him. He's a big enough boy to realise that actors and actresses have political opinions. That is democracy under the rule of law. But let them not think that democracy is in any way them deciding to believe some thing, and assuming, or demanding that, everyone else sheep along for the sake of appearances. Who do those countries think they are, saying that if we didn't send anyone to Copenhagen, it meant we were not committed? We are cleaner than all of them. I am in favour of a clean, green image,less pollution and litter, and yes, it appears the planet is warming up, but I believe we are fooling ourselves into vainly thinking we could have done all this damage, since cows have been letting off wind for thousands of years, and the climate has changed before - long before mankind could possibly have done aught to affect it. In about 1000 AD, after the Dark Ages, the world warmed up, but it could not possibly have been due to pollution, since this was about 800 years before all that. They used to grow grapes and olives in England. Then about 1300 it cooled, which is why Northern Europe and its colonial satellites like North America drink primarily grain alcohol, while still warm mediterranean places indulge in wines. Now also, ice is expanded water, so if the artic melts, the volume this ice takes up will decrease, and even if the antarctic does so too, and this ice comes of land, it will perhaps balance out, but I do not believe it will cause oceans to rise. I don't know for sure, but then didin't we all get paranoid about Y2K ten years ago, and nothing happened. Why don't they try the hose into space, and all that stuff, instead of cooking up more repressive taxes other countries have decided on ?

I believe in climate change. It has been happening for thousands of years! But human made climate change is at best negligable and at worst a scientific sham!

As I understand it the world is a closed system for carbon as well as all other minerals etc. Fosil fuel comes from plants and animals that took carbon out of the atmosphere in the first place. Hence the carbon we release from them was in the atmosphere at some stage! Plants and animals continue to sequester carbon and then die and go into the soil. In fact the more people and plants and animals there are the more carbon is being sequestered! A higher population may help sequester more carbon! Growing crops, animals, trees etc for harvest sequesters carbon. Human development does not use up minerals, land, fossil fuels etc, it simply transforms these into another form. It is still in the closed system that is the earth unless we happen to be venting gold, chromium, iron, carbon etc. etc into space never to be returned. We are simply transforming from one form into the other.

Having said this though we must remember that we will need to maitain a balance that means that over time we are recycling all this in the system. We need plants to be recycling carbon etc etc. So we need to be careful to look after the environment. But to stifle development and base worldwide policy on shoddy science we have now is premature and stupid

Ignore the movie stars who grew rich on the most wasteful and polluting industry on earth (think how many miliions of movie buildings have been built and how many thousands of manhours wasted to get one hour of a film), with their chemically dyed hair and wasteful fashion and frippery and their jetset fuel wasting lifestyles along with the wasteful politicians and lets get back to the ordinary work of developing this country (responsibly).

O, and all the protesters expanding all their energies, will need to pay more because they produce more Co2 than someone more quiet - resting people pay the least tax and sports people have to pay additional penalties, depending on what sport they play. Card games will attract less tax, but rugby for instance will need to pay the top rates of tax. All these things have to be discussed in great detail by a lot of diplomats and world leaders, so that they get all the rates right - they pay extra because of all the travel and extra curricular activities, but that is OK - we have all wanted them to go, or at least 180,000 have signed on.

Did you know that the Maoris do not want an ETS? By the look of Te Karere last night, they just want to fell all the trees without penalty. How is that for looking after the planet? Tree planting is actually what is needed, to absorb the CO2 produced. But if we are going to tax emissions, then I guess we also have to tax ourselves - after all, we produce CO2 as well! Circle complete, we tax everything, do not plant trees and hope it all goes away whilst some make shitloads of money on the back of all this nonsense.

So Alex you don't really believe in global Warming you believe in Eugenics you don't want the third world countries to develop and raise their standard of living , because you think the world has run out resources!. Now I understand why you and pitbull want to force your views on the rest of the world, Your nothing but a Elite Nazi Eugenicist!.

What amazes me with this whole 'climate change' thing is the fact that not only are humans arrogant enough to think they are capable of destroying the planet, but they are even more egotistical in thinking they can save it also! Our studies of climate change over recent decades are a fraction of a fraction of time...and are based on the idea that individuals who have spent a few years at university studying 'science' possess 'the Truth' that can define our past, and our future. We should care for the planet, of course we should. But that has nothing to do with circulating in money in shady ETS transactions that make money for elite individuals who fund scientist to go in search of THEIR "convenient truths". Finally, how about we all get rid of the cows and switch to a vegetable diet as so many climate tax beneficiaries suggest. Then instead of cows farting, the people will all be farting instead...and 6 billion people farting is going to create a helluva lotta gas!!! But...alas....we haven't got room to go veggie - we need the crop field for our veggie diesel....

I agree with Alex and Pitball. The problem on the planet is not some heary fairy made-up hoax (how many people were fooled by Y2K bug)like human induced global change, but hthe real problem of the population. We were 2 billion at the enf of WW2, and now 6 billion, where from here!!!

If Keys wants to lead the world on this, simply state that he will identify all companies in NZ polluting the air and waterways and put them on 6 months notice to clean up or shut down. Such leadership would benefit the environment in so many more ways than the nonsense that is the ETS. The ETS is a global shame and a wasteful use of taxpayer money.
