These tax changes make Australia and other countries look very tempting. I can handle higher tax, IF we get something in return. But there's all this squeeze for what? Fatter rich people? Do we really want another America, where CEOs and higher ups get billions of dollars IN BONUSES? Hell, I don't even really want to move to Australia, but it is better than what is in the foreseeable future. Putting all these limits on the Universities is too far.
I am not one to get upset on many issues but this is one I am. Its not just GST thats going up perhaps if that was the only thing then it would be kinda OK? Its the fact that rates are going up 3.7%, power 5%, petrol 6-10% (not to mention the 2.5% GST on top of each of these. ACC rates from the 1 April are increasing so my nett take home pay is going to decrease, yet the cost of the basics are increasing... how does one make this work on fixed wages? Sure we might get a tax break but unless it is very substantial it will probably barely cover these increases so therefore where is the benefit to the economy that everyone keeps talking about? Oh that must be the high earners. They can afford to hide/transfer money, charge expenses back to businesses. I think they should increase the tax brackets and leave GST as it is. During the resession there were numerious complaints on how high GST was now five minutes out of the recession they are increasing the rate.. come on!
NZ has to match Australian tax rates as soon as possible to a)keep people in NZ and b)attract people from overseas. I believe the recession has *delayed* this tax announcement, if not NZ has underlying structural problems to fix. Just what happened to the large surplus Labour was running....?
when Labour came into office under clarke & co they raisedthe top tax rate, they said they would use the extrarevenue to fix our public health system etc. They mostly failed in this . There is no Longer a mandate to continue taxing at this rate. They are no longer in office.
We need to revolt against the government if it keeps taking away our rights, two words "magna carta"
Keys moves on gst and tax ,suck ;look afer his rich mates as usual. And what about makig us workers in dangerous jobs having to use our holiday pay up before ACC will pay , if they don't blame your accident on degeneration as we all degenerate, even a 1year old has degenerated, how the hell was that law snuck in???? Tosser.Throw the changes out !!!!!
What good judgement, How can taking away our democratic rights be good judgement, whether you want the supercity or not, Aucklanders have had their democratic rights taken off them, rights that cost thousands of our New Zealanders their lives in wars around the world, come on, wake up Auckland read the Bills being rushed thru, we have no say in what our assets will be spent on except it will cost us everything, its all about for big business not just Franklin, Papakura, & Rodney (not Hide), work together to get results.
Come on John .. if you want to look after your mates, Widen the bands for tax . I.E make the top tax bracket from 100,000 instead of $70,000(paying 38cents) and progressively down the tax scale(48,000-100,000pays 33cents). Make the first $10,000 earned tax free. Then maybe you could get away with increasing GST by 1 or 2 % But to go up 2.5% and drop the top tax rate from 38c to 30c or 33c is really looking after your round table buddies a little to much and i think the honey moon will really be over.
never voted for national.... ever, under the sheer premise that if i don't go to bed with no whore, i don't wake up with no whore.."time for change' ..ha! time for a mass trip to the std clinic for most of NZ!!
This move should put the Nats out of office next year, it is a shame they always try to look after their supporters by giving them a handout at the expense of the majority of NZ voters. I voted them in but now I will be one of the many that will now vote them out, at least Helen Clark has gone!!
If the dictator and her sidekick had left money in the coffers instead of blowing it on fringe groups and lost causes, drastic measures would not be needed to steady the economy. Mr Keys could go further and tax the so called financial experts 99cents in the dollar on their excessive bonuses and dividends. That incidentally is what a UK labour gvt did in the 60s to stem the spiraling greed and excessive payouts.
