The group of protestors stripped down to their undies for the train ride and the semi-occupation of the train station

Around 40 protestors wearing only their underwear bombarded the Wellington Railway Station this morning.

The near-nude group from youth movement ‘Generation Zero’ is protesting the Government’s transport budget saying it disregards smart transport options.

They started their stunt early this morning, travelling to the central-city station by train – despite delays – wearing only their undies.

The group say they ‘exposed’ themselves in order to ‘expose’ the Government’s lack of interest in public transport.

Watch the video for the near-nude protest.

As soon as the government rolled out their plan for transport, this gentleman started a fitness plan to prepare for this day.

@Bulgar: Do you KNOW how much public transport in Wellington already costs? If they raised the fairs any more people would be even less likely to use our awful public transport. Especially for students like myself the prices are so high in many cases it is more value for money to drive somewhere rather than take the incredibly unreliable public transport.

Is it not more appropriate for the Wellington Council to fund public transport as it seems to be a Wellington problem that exists here? Perhaps they raise a loan to upgrade and the commuters pay off the loan through increased fares which would be offset if more people use it. Alternatively they could work from home or in their local suburb and the problem disappears! I'd suggest motorcycles as an option but then the weather there is very unfriendly.

Good on them for getting out there and doing it. Trains are terrible in Wellington. Spending time in Europe has made me see how good the public transport is here, not to mention how popular bikes are also!

Good on you guys! We should be promoting a sustainable transport model that other countries can follow- the current system is backward and detrimental to our "green" environment.

yeah, the roads/public transport spending ratio is ridiculous, especially considering the price of petrol is projected to double over the next 10 years (by an IMF paper!)

Wow, I never even knew the numbers were this bad! 'The Govt is proposing to spend more than five times as much money on roads than it will spend on public transport, active transport and rail freight combined'. This is seriously unbalanced considering petrol's already hiking up in price!

Great to see the young guys (and girls!) getting out there. Public transport is an absolute mess here in Auckland and it's about damn time somebody started caring about it. I'd take the bus if it actually was reliable - instead I spend an arm and a leg on petrol to spend 40 mins idling on a jammed up motorway.
