The results for the V48HOURS Film Festival are out and a subversive zombie comedy has taken the top prize.

Wellington team Noise and Pictures won $60,000 in cash and prizes, the prized Golden Ape and also took out Best Script and Best Makeup for their horror film Brains?.

The zombie comedy film impressed the audience, with international judges calling it “hilarious, original and surprisingly touching".

Team leader Giles McNeil says the group is “ecstatic” to have won and acknowledges their support from family and friends.

“Thanks mum," he says. "Finally I’ve done something good.”

Runner-up was team Lense Flare with their crime film The Girl with the Clover Tattoo, while Best Animation went to team Mukpuddy for their romantic comedy Love in Decay.

The competition has received 4062 films over the past decade, and founder Ant Timpson says competition is still just as fierce.

“Every time I think I have seen it all, these guys pull another trick out of the bag. We have some seriously talented filmmakers in New Zealand.

“Making a film in only 48 hours is no easy feat. Even Sir Peter Jackson doubts he could do the same, so well done guys.”
