| Happy Feet 'thriving' on journey home |
By Lloyd Burr
Happy Feet has two more nights aboard NIWA’s ship Tangaroa before he is released and those onboard say he is thriving, despite the rough sea conditions.
A NIWA spokesperson says he is on his feet in his specially-made crate, swaying backwards and forwards with the motion of the boat.
“Happy Feet was fed at 11 o’clock this morning. He continues to show our team who is the boss when he's being fed by giving them a peck.
“He seems to be able to smell the Southern Ocean and is eager to get there. Yesterday the crew made a special hydro-slide for him to help get down the stern ramp when he is released.
“Depending on the weather and the progress the ship makes overnight, the vessel is expected arrive at the release point tomorrow or Saturday,” the spokesperson said.
