eBay has banned the sale of magic potions, curses, hexing, tarot readings, spells, paranormal readings and prayers.

From August 30, the internet retail giant will no longer take listings in several categories, which include not only the metaphysical, but the mundane – recipes, diet advice and club memberships are also off the shelves.

"Transactions in these categories often result in issues between the buyer and seller that are difficult to resolve," eBay said in a statement.

The company says it discontinues categories that "are inconsistent with the spirit of eBay policies or impact the trustworthiness of the marketplace", and has offered refunds to sellers affected by the changes.

The banned items list already includes human body parts, Cuban cigars and postage meters.

Trade Me's banned list doesn't mention any of the products eBay has added, and in contrast actually has entire sections devoted to spiritual services, counselling and advice.

3 News was unable to find any magic potions for sale on Trade Me, however.

Is this anti-wiccan or anti-pagan discrimination, though? Personally, I'm a secularist and rationalist, but I don't think any of the named items are particularly harmful in any manner
