Dotcom to star in MegaChristmas
Kim 'Santa' Dotcom
Hacker, internet mogul, multi-millionaire piracy accused: now Kim Dotcom is adding "actor" to his resume.
The larger-than-life German, hated by Hollywood executives for his file-sharing Megaupload website, is turning the tables and taking to the stage as Santa in MegaChristmas, a production by Auckland's Basement Theatre.
The theatre last week took to Twitter to plead with Dotcom to take part.
He confirmed his involvement in a tweet on Tuesday, calling MegaChristmas "the funniest Xmas play ever ... Not for kids".
The performance's plot sees Rudolph the reindeer wake up hungover after a North Pole work party just 24 hours before Christmas to find Santa is missing, and with a quest ahead to find him.
Also starring ex-Shortland Street actors Kimberley Crossman and Mick Innes, 3 News entertainment reporter David Farrier and Power Rangers actor Nic Sampson, MegaChristmas runs from December 12-22.
Dotcom is on bail in Coatesville, north of Auckland, awaiting an extradition hearing over copyright charges in the United States, following his arrest in a joint raid between police and the FBI in January.
