The Orator cleans up at film awards

Tuesday 4 Dec 2012 11:30 p.m.

New Zealand film The Orator cleaned up at the inaugural Sorta Unofficial New Zealand Film Awards tonight.

Previously film had been covered in the Aotearoa Film and Television Awards, but when TV held its own awards this year, the movie business was almost left out in the cold.

That was before a couple of champions of local content stepped in. V48 Hours Film Festival director Ant Timpson and New Zealand Herald entertainment reporter Hugh Sundae teamed up to create The Moas.

The Orator seemed to take out most of the awards including best picture, best director, best actor, best actress, best screen play, best costume, best sound and best supporting actress.

Director Tusi Tamasese was pleased to be involved in the awards.

“It’s a good experience to be part of a celebration and to celebrate our work is fantastic.”

Producer Catherine Fitzgerald was glad the awards went ahead.

“These awards are actually celebrating the courage people have to make films in New Zealand. It’s wonderful to be here with our peers.”
