Air NZ delays Antarctica flight

Tuesday 19 Nov 2013 8:29 a.m.

A planned Air New Zealand flight to Antarctica today has been called off.

It's the third time the so-called approving flight has been delayed.

The flights are intended to test the feasibility of landing a commercial aircraft on the continent.

Kiwi scientists are currently in Antarctica looking at the depth of ice around the Antarctic shores, measuring the effects of climate change.

They're also looking at organisms beneath the ice, to see how they are being affected, and the local fauna, such as penguins.

3 News reporter Hamish Clark is in Antarctica, and joined Firstline live this morning – watch the video.
