iPhone customers forced to wait

The launch of the iPhone 4 in New Zealand went off with confusion at mission control.

Customers had to wait even longer than expected for the doors to open, and a chance to buy a phone with the most publicised reception problem in the world.

The latest Apple - OK yes it's tempting, but really is it worth queuing up for?

Some Auckland Apple fans had been waiting for two and a half hour wait because instead of going on sale at 9am, the phones went on sale at midday.

Why? No one knows.

Twitter was abuzz with anger and featured comments like: "It's just stupid all round really. Corporate bullshit of the highest order."

Regardless, the cult of Apple prevailed..

“It’s just better - better screen, camera faster,” says Carlos Butcher after getting his hands on one of the new gadgets.

Those that lined up could only get an iPhone 4 on a 24 month plan.

3 News understands it will be available on Apple's website tonight, contract free.
