A minor aftershock that rolled through Christchurch today may be the 11,000th earthquake endured by Cantabrians.
The 3.3 magnitude shock hit at 12:55pm at a depth of 6km,15km west of the city.
A total of 232 people registered the shake with Geonet, while Twitter users jumped online to discuss the quake.
Twitter user Erin Harrington said: “First [earthquake] I’ve felt in weeks. Boo, hiss, 4th floor office.”
Another user, Cheryl Bernstein, said her house was already shaking when the quake hit.
“That little [earthquake] came at exactly the same moment the pile driver next door hit bedrock. The house was already shaking. Double grrrr.”
The quake could be one to remember too, with the Christchurch Quake Map listing the event as the 11,000th earthquake since the original 7.1 magnitude quake in 2010 – leaving many around the city feeling nolgastic.
Sophie King tweeted: "Happy 11,000th Earthquake Christchurch! Just doesn't sound right, does it?”
Twitter user @bananag1 didn’t feel the quake and was disappointed to have missed out.
“Totally missed #11000 [earthquake]. Feels like that time I didnt win lotto (every week),” she wrote.
It is one of the first earthquakes to be felt in the city for several weeks.
