Cop shooter jailed for eight years
A man who shot at a policeman after being pulled over in Auckland has been jailed for eight years and three months.
Murray Toleafoa, a 30-year-old gang member, was sentenced in the High Court at Auckland today.
He had earlier admitted using a fire arm against a police constable after police originally charged him with attempted murder following the April attack.
The eight year and three month prison term includes a non-parole period of five years, One News reports.
The police officer stopped the car Toleafoa was in on Auckland's Mayoral Drive.
Toleafoa, who was a passenger in the car, fired a pistol which narrowly missed the officer but caused him to suffer a gunshot burn to his forearm.
Toleafoa was arrested more than a week later at a central city supermarket along with two associates.
Toleafoa's 20-year-old girlfriend, Nadia Ball, was also arrested after the incident and charged with being a party to the unlawful possession of a pistol.
