The Feilding man who has been running non-stop since Tuesday morning has crossed the finish line, clocking up a New Zealand record for continuously running 483 km.

Endurance runner Perry Newburn took on the challenge to raise money for a special-education unit at the local high school. His son has a severe intellectual disability caused by a rare chromosomal disorder.

As of this morning, Mr Newburn had raised $2,500 and more money is expected to come in today.

The challenge began at 8am on Tuesday and finished just before 8am today.

Mr Newborn was forced to run one more lap of Feilding's Manfield Park this morning when someone in his support crew realised the current record might have been 301 miles rather than 300 miles.

He did the last lap – a distance of 4.5 km - in 17 minutes.

After finishing, Mr Newburn had half a cup of tea before falling asleep.
