Prince Charles and his wife Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, have touched down in New Zealand.

The couple arrived at the Royal New Zealand Air Force base at Whenuapai, Auckland just before 10pm last night, kicking off their hectic six-day visit.

The Prince and Duchess are in New Zealand as part of their Diamond Jubilee tour representing the Queen.

They were met on the tarmac by Prime Minister John Key and his wife Bronagh, Minister of Maori Affairs Pita Sharples, and Auckland mayor Len Brown.

Prince Charles inspected a guard of honour and an air force band played both God Save the Queen and the New Zealand national anthem.

Mr Key said it was good to see Prince Charles and Camilla again.

"They're very much looking forward to being in New Zealand."

The Royals will receive a traditional Maori welcome at the Auckland War Memorial Museum this morning.

They will then attend an Armistice Day commemoration and lay a wreath on behalf of the Queen.

Prince Charles and Camilla will also visit Wellington, Feilding and Christchurch.

They depart from Christchurch, bound for Britain, on Friday evening.
