New dole law saves $74m – Bennett
Social Development Minister Paula Bennett (Victoria Evans)
Forcing people to reapply for the dole after being on it for a year has saved $74 million, the Government says.
The law change was made in 2010 and Social Development Minister Paula Bennett says since then more than 21,400 have gone off the dole.
Half of them didn't complete the reapplication.
"Through this reapplication policy alone we have saved taxpayers $74m," she said.
