Paul Swain appointed to Waitangi Tribunal
Former Labour cabinet minister Paul Swain is one of four new appointments to the Waitangi Tribunal.
Mr Swain, Rawinia Higgins, Miriama Evans and Nick Davidson are replacing retiring members.
Maori Affairs Minister Pita Sharples announced the appointments on Monday.
He says Mr Swain held numerous ministerial portfolios during a 15-year parliamentary career and has worked as chief crown negotiator in treaty settlements.
Dr Higgins is an academic, Ms Evans a senior public sector official and Mr Davidson a lawyer who has represented iwi claimants.
Professor Sir Hirini Mead has been reappointed to the tribunal, which can have up to 20 members.
