New Zealand multisport athlete Terenzo Bozzone showed he is returning to his best form by winning the Brazil 70.3 half ironman near Sao Paulo on Sunday.

Bozzone won by more than a minute from Fabio Carvalho, with fellow-Brazilian Igor Amorelli third.

Bozzone's time of three hours 52 minutes 53 seconds was a good one in hot windy conditions and proved he was overcoming the lower leg injuries that have plagued him over the last year.

The two Brazilians jockeyed for the lead through the cycling leg before Bozzone made his move on the 21km run, revelling in difficult headwind conditions.

He had also enjoyed the opening swim leg, which took place in rough water off Armacao Beach.

"I really liked swimming, especially with the strong waves," Bozzone told reporters.

"I surfed as a kid and I thought it was phenomenal. I was surprised by the strong wind because the weather predicted only a slight breeze."

Bozzone's next target was the world 70.3 half ironman championships at Las Vegas on September 9.
