Liana Leota back on court for Pulse

Former Silver Fern Liana Leota gets her first run in Central Pulse colours at the inaugural world premier club netball challenge in Glasgow beginning on Thursday (NZT).

Leota, working her way back to elite netball after the birth of her second child earlier this year, will play a key role in an abbreviated Pulse squad.

Pulse coach Robyn Broughton is without Silver Ferns Katrina Grant and Millie Lees for the five-day tournament, and is also missing newly signed goal attack Donna Wilkins.

But she has the invaluable services of shooter Caitlin Thwaites, who turned out for Australia in the recent quad series and Fast5 netball tournament, and experienced defender Te Huinga Reo Selby-Rickit.

Pulse regulars Victoria Smith, Daya Wiffen and Amber Bellringer also make the trip, and will be joined by Te Amo Amaru-Tibble, Nicola Mackle, Stacey McFeeters and Claire Kersten.

Broughton says the tournament offers a great chance for some of the squad's younger players to gain international experience.

"It's a pity our Silver Fern players can't participate, but travelling to Scotland would have placed a burden on them after their busy season," she said.

The tournament showcases six leading netball teams, including trans-Tasman league franchise West Coast Fever and two English teams in Northern Thunder and Surrey Storm. Glasgow Wildcats, from Scotland, and the Northern Ireland side the Northern Panthers complete the line-up.

The Pulse begin their campaign early on Thursday (NZT) against Surrey.
