Outstanding sprinter-miler Mufhasa has been named New Zealand horse of the year for a second time.

Mufhasa, who has won more than $3 million in his career, attracted 37 of the 43 votes on offer to repeat his award in 2010.

At the age of seven last season he won two group one races in Australia at Caulfield, where he raced as King Mufhasa, as well as the group one Captain Cook Stakes in Wellington and Challenge Stakes in Hastings.

It was a great awards night for the family of Mufhasa's trainer Stephen McKee as his retired father Trevor McKee, best known as the trainer of champion mare Sunline, received the award for outstanding contribution to racing.
