Managing our water

Thursday 21 Feb 2013 6:57 p.m.

Water pollution, water shortages, and rising water levels changing the coastal world.

In New Zealand, we're lucky with water, but perhaps not as lucky as many of us think.

From Monday, the issues surrounding the way we manage our water, how much we use, how we pay for it, and how we prevent our water from being polluted, will be canvassed by the Canterbury Regional Council.

At the hearings will be farmers - who need the water to stay in business - and environmentalists -who say the water must be treated with more care.

Balancing those two concerns is not only crucial, our very future may be depend on it.
