'Priority becomes your kids' – Lomu lives on $2.25

Monday 1 Oct 2012 3:58 p.m.

Campbell Live’s Lunchbox Day wasn't alone in addressing the issues surrounding child poverty last week. UNICEF looked offshore, and you don't have to go far.

Indeed, it's tragic to see the toll poverty takes in our immediate region. An estimated one in four households in the Pacific Islands lives below the poverty line, with high rates of infant mortality as a result.

UNICEF wanted to raise awareness of this and money to help fight it. So it asked people to live below the poverty line for a week – $2.25 per person, per day.

They got some high profile support, including from the Lomu family – Jonah, Nadene, Brayley and Dhyreille, who talked with John Campbell about the campaign.
