Auckland man receives Guinness World Record for Homer sleeve tattoo

Monday 21 Jul 2014 10:10 p.m.

West Auckland man Lee Weir is now the holder of one of the more obscure Guinness World Records – having the most tattoos of the same cartoon character on the body.

Mr Weir has 41 tattoos – all of Homer Simpson's face. He got the first one in 2007.

"There's Kurt Cobain Homer - my tribute to grunge [and] baby Homer - quite good next to the Homer skull".

All up, it took a total of 25 hours for this sleeve, and it was worth every second for Mr Weir.

"It's almost poking fun at tough-guy badge tattoos," he says. "As you see it at a distance and go 'Oh, that guy's got a tattoo', then you get closer and go, 'Oh, it's Homer, that's hilarious'".

Mr Weir has one more dream though, which is to get in touch with The Simpsons' creator Matt Groening, to see if he will draw him.

"Just on a scrap bit of paper that I could then get tattooed", says Mr Weir. "And then you get you as a character, tattooed on you."

He says that that would be a lot of fun; in fact it would be "marvellous".
