The hardship of birth in the Central African Republic

Tuesday 14 Jan 2014 6:31 p.m.

Warning – video contains material that some viewers may find hard to watch.

In the capital of the Central African Republic, where access to medical care is extremely limited, women giving birth face terrible hardship.

Often the women have become pregnant after being raped by fighters from either the Muslim Seleka group or the majority Christian militia.

The babies are forced into the world, and are often not wanted. Once born, they are another mouth to feed in a chaotic country.

Watch the video to see the full report.
